Putting the Adventure into Racing!

Open5Mountain Hardwear Open5 Series

The new Open5 series is here, with the first of five events kicking off in just over a weeks time. Its all go for another cracking season of amazing running and mountain biking in some pretty special corners of this country.

The series titles will be made up from the best 3 scores from the five events - expect tight competition throughout the table in the months to come. A little special addition is a £500 voucher for Mountain Hardwear kit to a male and female competitor who accrues the highest score froOpen5m competing in all FIVE events - and this applies to those that swap around classes.

So the next event is in Blanchland, in the North Pennines - tucked away in the valleys of the North. This is our 2nd visit to a great location and we hope to see you there.

  • North Pennines - 2nd November 08
  • Lake District - 7th December 08
  • York Moors - 1st February 09
  • Yorkshire Dales - 1st March 09
  • Peak District - 5th April 09

Endurance Series

Details are still being hatched out, suffice to say that dates are fixed and a new event is in the offering to be part of the endurance series. The Open5 plus! This will be part of the Keswick Mountain Festival and will be more akin to a little Open12 or 24 more news to come but the important bit is that this will be held on Saturday 16th May (not 17th as advertised elsewhere).
Keswick Mountain Festival

Coast to Coast Coast to Coast

This summer a few friends set off to get a feel for the distances and possible routes for this multisport event across the north of England - I think I can confidently say that they all thought it was a cracking route and will turn in to one of those classic events.

The website has yet to be updated so you have heard it all here first, but suffice to say the event will be a four day stage event (28-31 August), for which you will have to have a support vehicle and driver. It will be open to solos and mixed teams of three (with only 2 competing at any one time). More details in the next newsletter, again entries will open on 1st December.

Rat Race Nuun

There is something about sports nutrition, it evokes passionate discussion over what does and does not work that rarely lurks its head in society. So the key thing for me as a race organiser, especially if we are going to dish out a product as a prize, is it should be something that people really want to use.

Early in September I competed in the London Rat Race, great weekend out - but a really hot one. As someone who doesn't cope with dehydration that well I popped one of these Nuun tabs in my hydration pack (I also put it in the fridge overnight!).

It was the business, a great day racing on the Sunday with none of the symptoms of dehydration. With five hour events like the Open5's it may be worth checking out these little beauty's (available from the Accelerate stand at the Open5 events or online).
