Adventure Racers

Looks like the British summer is sneaking out of the back door without saying goodbye, chilly days are around the corner and the thoughts of swimming in Lake Windermere earlier in the year seem a moment of madness.  We have been busy at Open Adventure planning 2007 as well as out playing in the Dales and the Lakes checking out delights for racers in the future.

October 1st :: Malham - Yorkshire Dales
November 26th :: Reeth - Yorkshire Dales

Yep the Malham event is just over a week away, and anyone who has not been to this spectacular part of the country is in for a real treat - quietly I think this could be one of the best events of the year, plenty of fast singletrack riding with views to complement, lets hope its a dry day.

The Open5 series only has 2 events left with most categories still open to competition.  Remember its the best score from three events - so its not finished yet, with a few dark horses who have competed in one event looking to come back for the final two.

More details on the Open5 series can be found here.

Accelerate UK who have recently launched an online shop for Adventure Racerswill be at the next Open5 event in Malham with some pretty special offers from event sponsors Mountain Hardwear. You can get a further 10% off the prices at the event and online [www.accelerateuk.com] by using the following offer code ACCLC1

So with the additional 10% off thats £63 for the down vest and just under £50 for that £80 top - doh

Open Adventure 2007

Dates for the Open5 series have been posted on the website - we are currently finalising details in the meantime pop these dates in your diary and anybody else diary you happen to know.

21st January ~ 11th March ~ 13th May ~ 30th September ~ 25th November

Last Monday night saw an evening of scheming and planning for next years Open24, with technical advisors Tom Sibald (water) and Andy Sallabank (land) coming up with some pretty awesome trouser fillers.  History tells its own story. If you are in any doubt that an event won't give you enough excitement then check out this years race report on Sleepmonsters [click here] - we have been accused of putting too much adventure in adventure racing... what can you do.  So the most important date in 2007 (OK their might be a few others) is 28/29th July - the event will be somewhere in the Lake District.

We also have another event planned for 2007 - more details to follow in the coming months.. its not the coast to coast event we have had to put that on ice till 2008.  For those who know us and know we put on some pretty special races pop this weekend on that wall planner.  23/24th June.

Racing

Well that's enough for today, we are off to have a crack at the ACE race in Dumfries South Scotland this weekend.  If you are at the event give us a wave, you can't miss us we will be on the mountain bike tandem.

Its with that note that we sign off this newsletter by wishing Phil Humphreys the man behind ACE Races and arguably Adventure Racing in the UK, all the best for the future. Phil's moving on to teaching - however I'm not sure Adventure Racing has seen the last of that cheeky grin.  You can all now raise your mugs of tea in the direction of Telford, Shropshire.

Hope you have a good day.

No worries
