Phew

Definitely at the end of the summer season of Adventure Racing, no doubt you are nursing injuries, polishing medals and telling tales of "what if..." so whilst most other races are gone for 2006, Open Adventure has one more surprise with an Open5 in Reeth, Swaledale.  We have also been working hard on next years events so you best pull out the diary and a big marker pen to be sure that you are in the country.

November 26th :: Reeth - Yorkshire Dales

The last event of the year is in Reeth, the venue still vivid in the minds of those who made it to the inaugural Open Adventure event last year (would you believe its only 18 months ago!!) with the imposing limestone cliffs of Fremington Edge and the chocolate box village of Reeth.  It promises to be a great event and the decider for the 2006 series, with a number of dark horses having only completed 2 events about to lay claim to podium positions and prizes from Total Adventure / Anquet.

You can find out more details here - registration is from 8.30 - 10.00 and you can start anytime between 9.30 and 10.30.

Up to date series scores are available on the website here.

We always like to get a different view of the races so if you are coming along and fancy giving the world a first hand account of what happened in the form of a race report wing us an email.

October 1st :: Malham - Yorkshire Dales

Malham demonstrated that it offers some of the best Mountain Biking in the shadow of some tremendous running, with competitors having the challenge of scrambling up Goredale Scar and descending Malham Cove.  Big smiles all round - not least when the prizes came out.  With £2500 worth of prizes rattling around from Mountain Hardwear, EAS, Merrell, Timex, and Nuun.

Photos from James Kirby are available on Sleepmonsters here and a race report from yours truly here.

Mountain Hardwear Open5 Series 2007
The great news for competitors and Open Adventure is that Mountain Hardwear have come onboard as title sponsors for the Open5 in 2007.  This is the third year Mountain Hardwear are behind Open Adventure to promote Putting the Adventure into Racing.  The above ad will appear in Runners world over Christmas in a ploy to get more competitors to experience the great scenery found on the Open5 events.  So the big question is .. whose legs are they and where was photo taken?
Best get these dates in your diary's - 5 new venues just so much to choose from.  More details in the November newsletter - the website will go live with online entries for these events the day after the final Open5 of 2006.  As with this year the series will be based on the best 3 scores over the year.
21st January Hebden Bridge (South Pennines)
11th March Sutton Bank (York Moors)
13th May Keswick (North Lakes)
30th September Grassington (Yorkshire Dales)
25th November Coniston (South Lakes)

Hope you have a good day, if you are off to the Original Mountain Marathon up in Galloway have a great weekend out and don't get too greedy if you are on the score class.

No worries
