Dalby Forest, North York Moors - 27th January, 2008
Intro :: Details: Weather, etc :: Event Updates :: Make a weekend of it..
|
For the first event of 2008 we're heading to the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors and Dalby Forest. Runners will also not be disappointed with some amazing views to be taken in from the surrounding countryside. We are pretty confident you will enjoy this one. The start/finish will be adjacent to the visitor centre and parking (and cafe) so no carrying running kit on bikes here. There is a small charge for parking your car of £3.50 which will need to be paid at registration (this is normally £7 per car).
For this event Open Adventure is pleased to invite regular racer Paul Gomersall to plan and organise this event. Having raced in every Open24 and most of the Open5's he has a pretty good idea of what Open Adventure likes to put on. |

[18/1] Well Paul certainly has some surprises in store at Dalby, should be a great day out. The cafe staff at the visitors centre are also getting out of bed early and will have some food on the go for anyone who missed breakfast. (bacon butties, flapjack, etc).
We will have a live link to the start list at the beginning of the week so if you are itching to know who the competiton is we will reveal all very soon. On that note for those keen to leave it to the last minute remember entries close on Thursday at midnight - any changes / entries there after will have to be done on the day.
[21/1] We completely forgot to put a link to the rules / kit list for Open5 events on the new website - wood for the trees and all that.. you can find it here.
[24/1] 3 days to go... Parking - please follow directions on the day, intially we will park around Go-Ape and then at the far end of the main carpark. We are endevouring to keep a section of the carpark free near the visitors centre for families and the elderly that visit during the day.
Start / Finish - is just outside of the visitors centre next to the fenced off play area. Hence please be mindful of little ones when you are hurtling in and out of transition.
The cafe will be open at 8.00 am for an early morning bite and cuppa. The Accelerate shop will be in attendance for those last minute bits of kit. We also have Paul and Ian from Energ8 offering nutritional advice and providing an oppourtunity for you to try out their products.
For regulars, please note that you do not have to hand back the bike numbers at the end of the event.
The latest list of competitors is linked above and is updated as people enter. See you on Sunday.. should be a good one.Certainly a great place to spend the weekend. A day on the seaside exploring the amazing coastline around Filey is not one to miss. A trip on the North York Moors Railway is worth a look although just make sure its running at this time of year. If you want to head straight to the forest check out the craft shops in the courtyard.
If you need that retail therapy then pause at York, great place to shop yet also explore the Shambles or take in the awesome experience of York Minster. Don't forget to walk along the stone walls around the city and wonder how in this day they allow such an airy experience.
