Haglöfs Open5 Series 2014/15
2014/15 is the ninth series of Open5 Adventure Races. Mountain Biking, Running, Navigation and ADVENTURE!
Lake District, Cumbria :: 2nd November 2014
The 2014/15 season kicks off with an event on our home ground – Low Wray, Nr Ambleside will be our base. On the shore of Windermere, this event is sure to be a real treat for all. A bit spoilt for choice here as to which direction the event might take our planner, but what can be guaranteed is some great fell running and challenging mountain bike trails.
Joe Faulkner is the man behind this event. As an experienced navigator and planner he’ll choose the right locations to provide a challenge to the best, yet bring out the smiles for the newbies. As a driving force behind NAV4 Adventure you usually find him drinking tea and eating cake, when not providing coaching in navigation and adventure racing & mountain skills.
North York Moors :: 7th December 2014
We are heading to the north west corner of the North York Moors this year, with some dramatic moorland scenery to wet your appetite.
Bill Owen and Colin Dale are both seasoned Open 5 veterans, not only in the number of events they have attended but also in their actual age. But don’t let that fool you – this pair are hot on the heels of the younger crowd finishing in the top 10 last year. With a wealth of racing experience and a great knowledge of the local area, there are sure to be some treats in store and some cunning control locations.
Exmoor National Park :: 1st February 2015
Sadly we have had to cancel this event
Situated in the south west of Britain, Exmoor National Park contains an amazing variety of landscapes – moorland, woodland, valleys and farmland, where high cliffs plunge into the Bristol Channel.
This is a new area for the Open5 series, and one that is sure not to disappoint – some great bridleways and stunning views over the sea.
Yorkshire Dales :: 1st March 2015
Open5 revisits the Yorkshire Dales and in particular the small village of Stainforth in North Ribblesdale. Nestled in the shadow of Ingleborough and Pen-y-ghent, 2 of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, so be prepared for superb all year round trails and bridleways which were just made for mountain biking and trail running.
Planner Chris Maudsley is a keen adventure racer and ultra runner and has been a regular on the Open5 scene for a number of years racing mixed pairs with his partner in crime Tracy Wilson. Born and raised at Knight Stainforth, he runs the family campsite with his family and this will be the location for both Registration and Start/Finish for this event.
Peak District :: 12th April 2015
For the final event in this Haglofs Open5 Series, we are heading to the Peak District – the first of Britain’s National Parks. With spectacular limestone gorges, underground caves and an abundance of lakes & reservoirs, making this area a real treat for anyone with a love for the great outdoors.
Adventure race veteran – Peter Rostron is going to utilise his varied experience of planning and competing in a multitude of events over the last few decades.
The area around Edale has great significance for Pete, having being dragged over Kinder and Bleaklow as a kid by his parents. His knowledge of the area has been learnt the hard way, whilst competing in events in the area such as the High Peak Marathon and Edale skyline.
He is hoping to challenge the top level competitors whilst offering a great day out for all by showcasing the local bike trails, some great moorland running along with some outstanding scenery.
