Open5 Series

2021 is the Fifteenth series of Open5 Adventure Races. Mountain Biking, Running, Navigation and ADVENTURE!

Haglöfs Open5 Series 2011/12

The seventh series of Open5 Adventure Races. Mountain Biking, Running, Navigation and ADVENTURE!

Staveley, Lake District :: 2nd October

This will be the second time we have visited the stunning surroundings of Staveley in the Lake District National Park for an Open5 event.

Some may recall that the Open5 here in 2008 was affected by heavy snow and ice. We are confident that this time round you’ll be able to travel further and see more!

This event is being planned by local racer Anthony Cooper. Now a veteran event planner, he planned the very wet Hawkshead event in 2009 and the fantastic finale to the last series in Grizedale.

Church Stretton, Shropshire Hills:: 6th November

A brand new area for the second event in the winter series and what a special place we have in store. The Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) was designated in 1958 and covers a quarter of Shropshire.

New to the planning team is regular marshal, Jim Rounsley. With his attention to detail and local knowledge he’s sure to select the best spots for those controls.

Bacup, South Pennines :: 4th December

We return to Lancashire for the 3rd event in the series. Partly due to the popularity of the event in Slaidburn in the last series, but also because of the interesting and diverse landscape that is unique to the South Pennines area.

We are drawing on the experience of Emma Van Der Gucht who planned last series highly acclaimed Slaidburn epic. She will be assisted by local area guru Tony Lund.

Crowcombe, Quantocks :: 8th January

Our first venture down south for an Open5. We are visiting the picturesque location of the Quantocks for the 4th event in the series. This area rightly earned the status of Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in 1956.

The planner for this event is 2010 Open24 planner, Andy Wilson. He is just itching to get the Open5 contingent into the West Country to show what this area has to offer.

Warcop, North Pennines :: 5th February

A first for Open Adventure is the hosting of an Open5 from Warcop Training Camp. Not a million miles away from the infamous Kirkby Stephen event which took place in the last series. With this event running in the same month as that one, you’d better think about packing that extra-waterproof layer!

Experienced local racer Jeff Powell Davies has accepted the challenge of planning this event. This is sure to be another one to remember.

Dorking, North Downs :: 4th March

Again Open Adventure travels down south to bring the Open5 event format south of London.

The North Downs has to be one of the most beautiful parts of the country with diverse woodlands and pretty villages around every corner. But don’t be under the impression that just because it’s in the south east it will be any easier. There are certainly one or two surprises in store for the discerning adventure racer!

This one is being planned by James Thurlow and Dave Johnson. James has lots of local knowledge having lived in this area for years before emigrating north to the Lakes.

Dovedale, Peak District :: 1st April

For the final event of the series we travel to another new area, the beautiful Dovedale in the Peak District National Park.

This area has some amazing natural geological features and has always been a popular destination for tourists.

This event is in the capable hands of experienced event planner, Karen McDonald. She is sure to find the very best bits on offer to keep racers focused for a great finale to the series.
