[05/11] The adidas Terrex comes to Slaidburn and some great raffle prizes
For those of you who have not been hibernating from the Adventure Race world this year you'll know that Open Adventure brought the adidas Terrex expedition race to Cumbria earlier this year. You may also know that the event is being aired on Channel 4 this Sunday morning which clashes with our first event of the series. So just in case you forget to set your recorder we will be showing the event on our big screen at Slaidburn Village Hall at 8am on Sunday morning. So best arrive early to grab the best seats in the house before heading off and putting all those tips and tricks learned from watching the Terrex into practice!
Then after the event stick around as we'll be holding an 'all entrants raffle' to win a Suunto M5 watch and a 'first timers raffle' to win a Mountain Hardwear Technical Tee worth £35 at the prize giving, but you'll have to be there to claim your prize!
[04/11] Conditions at Slaidburn
Slaidburn has seen its fair share of rain over the past couple of days and the area is certainly a bit on the damp side. Please come prepared to get wet and muddy. We would recommend you wear fell shoes for the run and unless you have already done so consider swapping the semi-slicks for knobbly tyres on the bike.
[04/11] Registration and race details
For those who are new to our Open5 process: registration is between 8:30am and 10am; you can start between 09:30 and 10:30am. Whilst the registration, parking and start are all close by, please allow enough time to collect your race maps and numbers and get your gear together.
[20/10] A quick update about the first race of the season!
Food - Slaidburn Village Hall committee will be ready and waiting for the arrival of hungry racers before and after the race at registration. Hot drinks, breakfasts, lunches and post race hot food will be available on the day as well as a range of cakes. See above link for the menu - don't forget to bring some cash!
Four legged friends - Please note, we request that you don't take dogs out on the event course with you. We'll be crossing farm and shooting land during tupping week and prime shooting season so the farmers and game keepers are keen we don't worry the animals and birds.
Slaidburn is in the middle of an area of outstanding national beauty. For information on local walks or things to do visit: http://www.forestofbowland.com
Alternatively, the traditional market towns of Clitheroe and Settle are less than ten miles away.
