Event Updates

[5/3] Last update before the weekend. First of all looks like the sun may come out to play on Sunday. You can probably leave the suntan lotion at home but if its clear blue day we won't be so finicy about carrying waterproofs. We will put a notice up at registration by the main entrance to the hall to be clear..

Just in case you get confused registration is at Settlebeck High School (LA10 5AL) not Sedbergh School. Use the map above and you should not go wrong.

We will however be starting to get a little tighter on making sure competitors wear the run number on their front (not on rucksacs or under tops). You can get run number belts for £4 at registration.

Oh yes if you didn't see the note below don't bring dogs - they are also not allowed on the School field which is where the transition is.

OK last thing the road from Junc 37 to Sedbergh is now open.

[3/3] OK little update from David.

Parking - will be partly in the school and along the Cautley Road. This is wide road leading east out of Sedbergh.

Dogs - OK its that time of year when farmers get a little nervous about dogs. Even if you have a well trained dog please do not bring it to this event (or leave it at the transition).

Access - Just a little note, for this event we will be using an area on the RUN of Open Access where we have gained permission for you to travel where you wish to reach controls. Once you leave this area you must stick to rights of way - footpaths / bridleways / roads - you do not have license to cut across private fields or jump fences.

There was an event in the area last weekend where some of the MTBers went a little off piste, which has left a few landowners a little on edge. This is not a problem for you or for us if you stick to bridleways and roads. We have marked clearly on the maps where you can cycle if you are in any doubt please speak to us rather than making assumptions.

Roads - convienently a short section of road between Junc 37 and Sedbergh is being closed for resurfacing this week. It should be sorted by the weekend. We will update the website on Friday on how to access Sedbergh if this is still closed.

Check back later in the week.

[1/3] Entries are trickling in - we should have around 300 people exploring Sedbergh and the surrounding hills this weekend. We will update this page later in the week so please check back.

Food The school PTFA (parents teachers and friends association) is providing catering for the event, so bring some pennies for teas / coffees and warm food.

Parking is one of two options. Either a field nearby (will signpost) or if this is not suitable it will be along the wide road leading east out of Sedbergh. Needless to say we would prefer the field as its closer to registration.

Where are you all? Lastly we have created a new page which some of you might have seen on our Facebook page. We created the page to help us in marketing the events as our estimations one where you all came from and hence where should market was a finger in the air. However we can see this page may have use for those looking to share lifts. Its is based on the first half of your postcodes (e.g. LA12) so is not very accurate, thats how we want it to be.

Have a look - we have yet to have any complaints about privacy. If we do we will happily remove names off the map but for the moment feedback has been pretty positive. Click here to check it out.

Maps - all maps will be printed on the new XE waterproof paper. Good feedback from last event however some competitors struggled to write on the maps in the rain (rain what rain never rains on an Open5!) you will have this problem whether we laminate them or use the old paper. The trick is to keep the map dry untill you mark the scores on it.

Check back later in the week.

Make a weekend of it..
Sedbergh is a great little market town with plenty to do as well as fill any hungry racers. If you are looking for a place to stay or ideas of what to get up to check out the Sedbergh town website here.
