Hope, Peak District - 5th April, 2009
Intro :: Details: Weather, etc :: Event Updates :: Make a weekend of it..
|
Well, this is a first an Open5 in the Peak District and not too soon if feedback from our competitors is anything to go by. Registration, start and parking at will be at Hope College, and the man behind the day is Open Adventure racer Ian Hughes, bubbling with ideas we are having trouble holding him back. It will also be the last in the Open5 series so expect a crowd and enjoy what this great part of the country has to offer.

[3/4] The series score sheet has been updated here with pre-entries to the Hope event. If you have entered previous series events and this event please make sure you have 0.10% against your name(s).
[2/4] OK entries have almost closed and we have a bumper entry for the last event of the series. The weather looks like it might do its best, so don the sunnies and bring out the suncream - maybe thats a step to far.
Few things - For those who are looking for a series placing, tomorrow (Friday) at lunchtime I intend to recreate the series table with the entries so far, giving you a score of ZERO points for the peak district event. If you are in the series could you check the table here and make sure that you are listed with your other scores in the series. Any problems please wing me an email.
Normally we put notes up in the hall on the trail conditions, having discussed this with Ian the planner we are struggling to come up with any comments that are not already mentioned on the map. We will post A3 versions of the map but there will not be any notes with them.
OK last of all for this evening.. tricky one this is. Over the past three events we have had to remove all of the mountain bike or run points for five competitors who have delibrately broken the rules (climbing stone walls, running across private land and cycling on footpaths). In one situation the problem almost resulted in us loosing permission for all future events in the area (it was a National Park Ranger that witnessed the crime).
Two of the situations have involved competitors who would have won prizes at the event. My point is don't do it, its not fair on other competitors, you are more than likely breaking the law and you are putting the events in jeopody. Finally you are not being fair on yourself.
If you are in any doubt over whether you can use a route please talk to us at registration. Nuff said. Sleep well.
[20/3] Wilfs will be onsite with food and drink to prepare any hungry racer. So leave the tupperware at home and grab some proper race food. Breakfast butties, teas / coffees available from 8.00am - post race expect the usual fare of spuds, pizza and chilli.
