Mountain Hardwear Open5 Series 2008-09
2008-09 is the fifth series of Open5 Adventure Races. Mountain Biking, Running, Navigation and ADVENTURE!
Blanchland, North Pennines – 2nd November, 2008
It seems a long time ago that Open Adventure explored this part of the country – it was our 3rd ever event and this is our 24th! Many on that day remarked on what a great area this was and how little it had been explored.
The moorland offers some fantastic views and the mountain biking is the real thing – don’t expect any manicured tracks, but expect some fantastic riding.
Staveley, Lake District – 7th December, 2008
You can hear the smiles.. Staveley is renown for amongst other things being the home of Wilfs as well as the start location for many MTBer’s foray in to the hills.
Stokesley, York Moors – 1st February, 2009
For this event registration and parking is at Stokesley High School. Needless to say you will not be doing laps of the town centre but rather heading out on to the spectacular moorland that rises to the south.
To make this event happen, there will be a short cycle of 20 mins to the start / finish area.
Malham, Yorkshire Dales – 1st March, 2009
As Malham went down a treat in 2006 with Open Adventurers, we have decided to return to this Jewel in the Crown of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. For those new to this part of the Dales you won’t be disappointed as there are some stunning views to take in, together with classic mountain bike trails you are guaranteed another memorable Open5 event.
A first for Open Adventure with registration in a marquee – yep with such a spectacular location and no hall for miles we had to get creative.
Parking will be on the show ground field if weather is good otherwise it will be the visitors carpark for which is a pay and display car park.
The man behind this event is Dave Johnson, he put together the successful event in Pateley Bridge in 2008 and you will find him regularly competing in events with his wife Ruth.
Hope, Peak District – 5th April, 2009
Well, this is a first an Open5 in the Peak District and not too soon if feedback from our competitors is anything to go by.
Registration, start and parking at will be at Hope College, and the man behind the day is Open Adventure racer Ian Hughes, bubbling with ideas we are having trouble holding him back.
It will also be the last in the Open5 series so expect a crowd and enjoy what this great part of the country has to offer.
Open5+ – Lake District – 16th May, 2009
A new one for Open Adventure the Open5+, yes its an Open5 with a twist expect a special stage akin to that of an Open12 or Open24.
The special stage will be timed out so you will still have 5 hours to take on the excellent MTBing / Running we have in store.
