Hebden Bridge, South Pennines

21st January, 2007

Hebden Bridge - Open Adventure is back, the ridiculously steep sided valleys with dwellings perched impossibly, is the scene for the first Mountain Hardwear Open5 event of 2007. The scenery provides the ideal amphitheater for running and mountain biking, with plenty of bridleways and paths the navigation will keep your brains twitching for the full five hours.

Jonathan Emberton and Phil Scarf - the local lads, who have been stomping over the podiums at adventure races in the UK over the past 2 years are the planners for this great day out. Be warned they have been saving this event up for a few years and will no doubt unleash a plethora of surprises.

Registration is at Mytholmroyd Community and Leisure Centre click here for a map of the local area. Check back here near the day for up to date information on this event.

[11/01 update]

Just a brief update on the forthcoming event - as mentioned in this months newsletter Jonathan Emberton and Phil Scarf are making a few changes to the usual format.

The most obvious one is that they plan to use explorer [1:25000] ordanace survey maps for both the run and the MTB. For those new to the events we historically have used the landranger [1:50000] maps for the MTB. They feel the explorer maps are clearer in this area and will make the MTB navigation easier.

[14/01 update]

Most important - update... showers and changing facilities will be available at the leisure centre. Prize giving will still be at 4.30ish, don't want any awkward moments with naked competitors and towels so make sure you allow enough time to get yourself sorted.

[18/01 update]

The entry list has been updated, check your listing to see if it is correct any worries email us at Open Adventure. We omitted to mention in the event text above that you do need to cycle to the start and hence be able to carry your run kit on your bike. It is not far (approx 1km) but prob too far to push a bike and lug a kit box. There is no parking at the start / finish.

If you look at enough weather websites one will tell you it will be sunny on Sunday - this one does (BBC say's not).

Check back here nearer the weekend for any updates.

[Race Numbers]

For 2007 we also have race numbers for competitors, which will be given out at registration. The paper numbers are for the run and they need to be affixed to your front using the safety pins supplied. If the weather is bad and you are reluctant to affix them to waterproof jackets etc. please attach them to the waist belt of a rucksack or bum bag - they should be visible from the front. These numbers do not have to be returned after the event.

[Open5 run number]

The MTB numbers need to be attached to your bike using the supplied zip ties, we will have a bike on show at registration so you can see how this is done. After you finish the race the MTB numbers need to be returned to event staff before leaving the transition.

[Open5 MTB number - to be returned after event]

For your information series leaders will have their surname printed and have a yellow background to their event number.
