Hebden Bridge, South Pennines - 22nd January 2006
Hebden Bridge – you can be but amazed at the steep sided valleys with hanging villages that populate this part of the south pennines. Peer over the top of the valleys and you will be surprised to see a maze of bridleways and MTB singletrack to feast the lungs of any Adventure Racer.
For the South Pennines event, Open Adventure has a guest planner in the guise of mercenary Adventure Racer Mick Kenyon, star of Team High5, Cotswold Outdoor, Team Polaris. His ruthless training schedule takes him up and over the South Pennines which makes him well qualified to show us the secrets the South Pennines has to offer.
Hamsterley Forest, North Pennines - 12th March, 2006
Hamsterley Forest – what a treat we have here, local MTBers are determined to make Hamsterley Forest the MTB mecca of the north east (see Hamsterley Trailblazers) with tracks from the serious downhill to the family rides. Expect some eye popping riding. The forest also borders the Pennine moors which will undoubtedly provide some excellent views over towards Durham and the Yorkshire moors worthy of an early morning in March.
Broughton in Furness, South Lakes - 14th May, 2006
South Lakes – The hidden valleys of the south lakes, provided a secret warren of paths and bridleways for those who dare to explore. Broughton in Furness is a tidy little hamlet which sits alongside the arterial A591 that circumnavigates the south lakes providing expedient access for late risers as well as an appropriate gateway to the valleys heading north.
Malham, Southern Yorkshire Dales - 1st October, 2006
Southern Yorkshire Dales – Malham is the source of few real treats including Malham Cove and Goredale Scar – the sights that treat thousands of visitors every year will be the backdrop to this event. Competitors will face real anguish as they are torn between taking in the sights yet moving with due haste to get back in the five hours.
Swaledale, Northern Yorkshire Dales - 26th November, 2006
Northern Yorkshire Dales – With unfinished business Open Adventure is keen to revisit the Swaledale valley. This was the location for the first ever Open Adventure event in February of 2005 which was marred with heavy snow fall. Whilst presenting some of the most spectacular running and mountain biking in the country, the snow meant competitors only caught a glimpse of what is possible.
