Open24 - Event Details
A few more details for the adrenaline junkies. As with the Open12 some of this might change as the content of the event develops but it should give you a flavour of what we have planned.
Minimum distances (it is possible to reduce these further if special stages are not completed)
- MTB - 47km 1500m ascent
- Foot - 20km 1200m ascent
- Swim - 750m (optional)
- Paddling - 5km
Maximum distances are whatever you can archive in the 24 hours (don't worry there will be plenty to do), remember its not who travels the furthest but who scores the most points. For 2006 some competitors covered over 200km in the 24hrs.

Sportident Scoring
For those of you who have not competed in similar events, we use the Sportident system of scoring - you can find out more on their website here www.sportident.co.uk The entry form for this event, provided an option to hire an SI card, for this event we require that competitors use the higher capacity SI-6 cards - if you have not selected to hire a card yet do not have an SI-6 please contact us. If this all confuses you don't worry, just make sure you have card on hire and we will explain all at registration.
Maps
Two weeks prior to the event we will release details of the maps required for this event. Two Lake District explorer maps will be required (1.25) or if you prefer for the MTB two landranger maps (1:50). The cheaper and arguably better option is to purchase Anquet electronic mapping for the Open24 at an event price of £15, for which we will supply a file that will put the waypoints in the exact locations on the maps for you. You can find out more details on this offer here.
Control Locations
For last years Open24 things got a little stressed for a few people in the days leading up to the event as they found that they were unable to view the control locations document. Well if you have printed off an endurance series entry form in theory you should not have a problem but just in case we have placed an empty control locations file on the website so you can make sure you can open it rather than leaving it till the day before the event.
Example Control Locations file click here (500Kb)
Likewise similar problems occurred with Anquet as people struggled with saving and opening files. Its a pretty simple process and we have put some instructions up here so you can see what you need to do. Again we have also placed a dummy Anquet waypoint file here for you to try out, it lists previous Open5 locations AND ones we are considering for 2008!

Just to note as Anquet are providing a really cheap service with maps we won't be providing Version 1 waypoint files, it takes us an age to create them right at a time (3 days before the event) when we are pretty busy. To check out which version of Anquet you have go to Anquet - Help - About.
Any questions
OK we have put together a list of commonly asked questions from previous years, as new ones are asked we will add them to the list you can find them here.
