2008 Open12 - Event Details

These are the event details for the 2008 which has been and gone. Please check back to the Open12 page for details of the next event here.

A few more details for the adrenaline junkies. The event is still evolving, and as such please refer back to these pages prior to the event. We will highlight any changes.

Minimum distances

  • MTB - 22km 740m ascent
  • Foot - 11km 450m ascent

There will be a prologue to this years Open12 which will not be part of the timed 12 hours but from which you will be able to score points. In addition there will also be a cycle to the start of 10km 180m ascent for which you will have ample time to do complete.

Maximum distances are whatever you can archive in the 12 hours (don't worry there will be plenty to do), remember its not who travels the furthest but who scores the most points.

Timetable

13th June (Friday) Closing date for entries, please call 0845 056 0040 to check for availability after this date.

Maps

Two weeks prior to the event we will release details of the maps required for this event. One explorer map will be required (1.25) or if you prefer for the MTB one landranger map (1:50). The cheaper and arguably better option is to purchase Anquet electronic mapping for the Open12 at an event price of £20, for which we will supply a file that will put the waypoints in the exact locations on the maps for you. You can find out more details on this offer here.

Control Locations

Each year things got a little stressed for a few people in the days leading up to the event as they found that they were unable to view the control locations document. So just in case we have placed an empty control locations file on the website so you can make sure you can open it rather than leaving it till the day before the event.

Example Control Locations file click here (500Kb)

Likewise similar problems occurred with Anquet as people struggled with saving and opening files. Its a pretty simple process and we have put some instructions up here so you can see what you need to do. Again we have also placed a dummy Anquet waypoint file here for you to try out, it lists previous Open5 locations AND ones we are considering.

Open5 locations - Anquet Waypoint File click here

Just to note as Anquet are providing a really cheap service with maps we won't be providing Version 1 waypoint files, it takes us an age to create them right at a time (3 days before the event) when we are pretty busy. To check out which version of Anquet you have go to Anquet - Help - About.

Any questions

OK we have put together a list of commonly asked questions from previous years, as new ones are asked we will add them to the list you can find them here.
