2007 Open12 Adventure Race

Sorry you have missed the 2007 Open12 Adventure Race but we will be back in 2008 on the weekend of the 28/29th June, check back in December when we will post more details.

This is the first year of the Open12 - 12 hours of adventure in the Yorkshire Dales. Expect your eyes to be on stalks as we provide a pretty intense experience, no doubt you will be grinning from ear to ear wondering what on earth you are doing.

The Open12 at its core will include mountain biking and trekking (running) but will be peppered with Open Adventure's 'trouser fillers' and special stages. This is a great way for those new to Adventure Racing to cut their teeth on some real adventure.

This event is for male, female and mixed pairs and will cost £75 per person. The event will not require a support crew. The event is part of the endurance series, competitors who enter the series will be entitled to further discount on the entry fee. Check out the endurance series entry form for further details.

update [21/06 - 12.00]

We will update the FAQ page today so check back later with questions posed by other racers.

Russ Ladkin was first to spot an error on our part - we renumber the controls to make marking up easier. Hence the comment on stage 2 about the track south of 80 should read south of 98

Bouyancy aids do not have to fit in your kit bag, we will transport those seperately to where you might need them.

update [08/06]

A day early I know but we are releasing details of the Open12 now as both Lisa and I are away over the weekend and we did not want you enduring the suspense til Monday.

To put you out of your misery registration will be at Barbon Village Hall a few miles north of Kirby Lonsdale on the west side of the Yorkshire Dales. Plenty to do in this neck of the woods to keep any adventure racers amused.

If you are buying paper maps, the one to choose is the Explorer OL2 Yorkshire Dales - Southern and Western Areas. Remember next Monday anquet will be making available mapping for the event at a heavily discounted rate - see the offer at the top of the page.

A quick scan of the map will show what we had planned for the paddling stage - a few KM's of grade 1/2 paddling on the river Lune. We have spent the last 6 months talking to landowners and other users of this river to enable us to have access, dispite this (and a chilly morning of paddling in February) the key landowner on Wednesday gave us the big thumbs down in favour of not hacking off the local fishermen who pay a fair amount of money.

We had a feeling this may happen and even started sketching out a possible alternative event in the Lakes (which we now hope to use next year!) - but having secured permission to use so many other exciting parts of this area, none of which can be found anywhere else in the country, we have decided to run with the event.

If you had hired paddles we will refund any money at registration. Hang on to your bouyancy aids - still might need them.
