June Open Adventure Newsletter

Dear Adventurers,

It's been a busy month here at Open Adventure towers. We are getting ready for the ITERA expedition race in August. As midsummer's day rapidly approaches, teams can start counting down the days! We are also looking still further ahead into the murky depths of the Autumn, when the 2014/15 Haglöfs Open 5 series will come back with full force, bringing a fleet of new and exciting events.

The ITERA

The ITERA

There is now nearly a full quota of teams signed up to race the five day World Series expedition race. That means it will be the 2nd biggest expedition race ever held in the UK (1st being the world champs in Scotland in 2007). The super-experienced Tom Gibbs is the planner behind the event and I think it is fair to say we are pretty pleased with what we have put together - it promises to be an amazing experience for everyone! As ever, we will have live tracking and coverage during the event to inspire supports into entering in 2016.

After the ITERA our next event is the Lakes in a Day Ultra Run. We have 150 entries already but still have spaces so get your entry in soon to secure a spot. Take a look at the website to see if you have the mettle to take this journey on.

Haglöfs Open5 series

For those looking for a more bitesize challenge, the Haglöfs Open5 series will be back this November with a fresh new flurry of races. We are heading back to some old haunts and as ever checking out some new ones. Take a look at the series on our website and put the dates in your diary. Why not commit to racing at least three events so you can be part of the series?

If Ultra Running is your thing then no doubt you will have noticed that Steve Birkinshaw is part way through his 512km epic around the Lake District. His aim is to break Joss Naylor's record of 7 days 1 hour for visiting all of the 'Wainwright' peaks. Check out his blog and the tracking that we are providing for him.

We will be back in July on news of the 2015 Coast to Coast Adventure Race - a classic linear multi-sport event following a stunning route across the country.

Finally, a few of you have been asking us about the 10km Kendal Mountain Festival Trail Race. We can confirm that it will happen again this year on the 22nd November. We will have more news next month.

No worries, James Thurlow.
