South West Haglöfs Open5

The staple diet of any UK racer is the Haglöfs Open5 series. With the series table hotting up we head south and to the Mendips. Eddie Winthorpe is at the helm normally found on a tandem or in a cave or eating jelly babies. Expect a treat and pop an entry in - more details online.

Two Day Open Event

Following last years 2 day stage event in the Lakes, we are back with 2 more this year - one in Wales and one in the Lakes. The venue for the Lakes event is confirmed as Rydal Hall. Plenty to get at with this event, Neil Hamblin veteran of Open Adventure races as well as the planner for the Open24 back in 2011 is the boss for this one.

NB Haglöfs' Open5 competitors can get a discount on this event.. more details will be emailed to previous competitors.

Overground Trail Race

Bit of a heads up and a date for the diary Sunday 26th May - we are working with the Underground Overground Festival www.ogug.co.uk in Ingleton to put on the Overground Trail Race, it's about 12 miles so worth getting out of bed for. Mick Kenyon is the master behind this one.. more details in February's newsletter.

Skill Up

Open Adventure is stepping in to the realm of training. Linking these up to the Haglöfs Open5 events, these are one day skill based courses on the day before the event. The idea is not to bust you but to give you some structured training to help you enjoy these events all the more. More details on each of the event pages - price is £45 and includes lunch.

  • Saturday 2nd March (Yorkshire Dales) - Navigation.. We will take you through what top competitors think when they look at the map before and during the event.

  • Saturday 6th April (Lake District) - Mountain Biking.. What you need to know before you get on the bike, how to use it and what to do when it breaks down.

  • Saturday 4th May (Shropshire Hills) - Trail Running, Kit and Nutrition.. Anyone can run.. but how do they run up (or down) that? And get to grips with what you should be carrying - from cold & wet to proper sunny days.

If these dates don't work for you or perhaps you are looking for more in-depth coaching with navigation - give Joe Faulkner / Nav4 a look as these guys know their onions. Also if you are based further south you may find Tri-adventure's academy of interest; check out their website for more details.

Mountain Biking

Finally, not everyone is on Facebook but even if you are not you can still take a look at the photos we post online. We have just posted a gallery of the best photos over the years.. are you on there? Is there a picture that should be in the gallery but is not.. let us know.

A personal plea - please take time to check out the Howfast website, my personal challenge as I take on diabetes and look to raise money for research into diabetes. Worth getting a brew and take time to read the blog.

See you at the next event

PS C2C in a Day Sportive is nearly full if you are wanting to take on this epic best get your entry in.
