Haglöfs Open5 Adventure Race Series
When we head in to a winter series of Open5’s, we know that for one or two the weather is going to do its best to disrupt proceedings. December’s event in Bacup was one of those. It challenged the most experienced racers in the country, with many opting to head back early. Stories / blogs are all listed on our Facebook page, have a coffee in a nice warm room with a laptop and take a moment to read a few.
With that in mind Open Adventure is heading south to the Quantocks to get a tan. It is the first event of 2012 on 8th January, experienced racer Andy Wilson is at the helm of this Open5, and he has booked the sunshine to arrive a few days before to dry out any remotely muddy trails. Click to find out more.
Remember, you only need 3 events to qualify for the Series... all you need to do is enter and we’ll do the rest.

Two Day
At the end of April Open Adventure, with the help of Tom Gibbs (team adidas TERREX) and Paul Noble (Windermere Canoe and Kayak) are putting on a Two Day Stage race. It’s a format that makes it accessible to all racers... so if you want a weekend away in the Lake District to experience the cream of Mountain Biking, Running and Kayaking then make sure you pen this one in your diary.
Winners of the Haglöfs Open5 Series will get a free entry to this event. And after some chatter with Ivan of the Irish CCAR series their pairs winners will be coming along as well. If the invasion was not enough, solo winners from the Tri-Adventure winter sprint series will be heading north for the Two Day event to find out what hills look like.
A few people have emailed us about the Questars two day Adventure Race on the same date. We chatted to Questars about this, with both of us having put a lot of work in to planning these events before publicising and both having busy calendars it was tricky for each of us to move the date. With their event in Exmoor and ours in the Lakes – the thinking was that the difficult decision will only have to be made by a few. So if you are way down south it might be worth checking out their event.

Youth adventure in France
Last month Sarah Briaery contacted us from Junior Adventure in France to see if we knew anyone who would be interested in taking a Youth Adventure Racing team out to France. We are putting the feelers out, but if you are interested then have a look at their website... this might appeal to some of you involved with Youth Groups / Scouts / Running Clubs. There could be funding available for the right team. Let Dawn know and we will put you in contact.
Have to confess this initiative in France does put us to shame and it’s great to see it happen. If anyone in the is interested in doing something similar in the UK, give us a shout as we would be keen to help out. However one should not be naive to the UK legislation that is in place that makes this very difficult.

Moving to a Bigger Shed
Yep, Open Adventure Towers is moving to a bigger shed, with a little office. So if you have our details on file best change them to Open Adventure, The Packing House, Clock Tower Works, Low Wood, Ulverston, LA12 7PY Telephone 015395 31048.
On that note if you are in the game of putting on events and need any kit, be it radios, race clocks, small marquees, PA system, gantry, signs – right down to making maps and providing support at the event – then wing us an email, as we help a good number of events out each year which are not branded Open Adventure.
