Well the Lake District has become much like the continent recently basking in sunshine, and the great weather at the planetFear Open5+ event was no different. It was fantastic to see over 90 teams taking part all wanting a piece of the action. If you missed out and want to check out the race report then you can go to the planetFear website.

Ready for Action
Well if the Open5+ tickled your taste buds you will find details of the Open12 online ready for you to read. The Yorkshire Dales is the natural environment for an adventure like this and gives racers a great chance to discover areas they may otherwise not reach. Remember the format is slightly different to the past as it is broken into two 6 hour stages, expect the unexpected.
More details on the Open12, entries close 18th June.

Get Paddling
So the secret is out. The Open24 will include sea paddling so even the purist paddlers will need to get qualified if you want to be using racey boats. If you wish to use any other boat other than a sit on top you will need a team member who has a BCU 2 star UKCC qualification (or 3 star on the older BCU system). Sounds tough but this is non - negotiable, so don't even think about asking! Check out the website for more details on how to jump through the hoops in time for the event.

Anquet
These are the guys that have been helping us out for over 4 years with digital mapping for our events. Barely a day goes by at Open Adventure towers when we don't open up this software to look at an area we want to run an event in. It's key to the running of our events, with all the planners using the software to come up with their devious plans.
After 4 years we are kind of sold on this stuff, you can plan routes on OS mapping, upload GPS tracks (NB we use this to double check control placements), and with the advent of broadband you can now pay and download the bits of mapping you want making it a lot cheaper than in the past.
So Anquet has offered £200 of mapping to one of our readers.. just click here and answer the question. Prize winner will be drawn by Dave Johnson - Anquet man, at the Open12 in the Dales.

Volunteers
With all the fun we have in the Open12 and Open24 we need more than a couple of pairs of hands to make these events work. If you want to be a part of the action then please get in contact, you can be assured we will find you plenty to do.
