Too much to tell to wait till February so a double dose of newsletters in January. Exciting year ahead - read on if you want to dip your toes in Adventure Sport as you will find no better place than Open Adventure. Happy Days.

PlanetFear Endurance Series

As the title tells the story planetFear is the new partner for the endurance series. Expect to hear more about planetFear as we are working together to make this exciting series of events happen this summer.

The Endurance Series is made up of the Open5+, Open12 and Open24. This year we are working with the National Trust on the Open5+, and having sat in a meeting with them last week, don't underestimate the spice the green fleece brigade can bring to the party (one or two ideas made my ears curl!!) Last year this event sold out and we expect the same this year. Best get your entry in eh!

With the Open12 taking on a different format with an overnight stop, it just leaves the Open24 - for this year expect a surprise or two..... and a camera in the face - as the boys (and girls?) from Dreamteam TV are coming along to cover the event for Channel4.

Ah lastly how could we forget - it's worth booking up soon as you can get money off if you enter before March 1st.

Mountain Hardwear Open5 Series

Right back on to the Mountain Hardwear Open5 territory - well the series is hotting up and the next event in Howarth is NOW FULL. Yep local restrictions have meant we have had to put a limit on competitor numbers. So unfortunately this means no entries on the day either. Sorry for any disapointment - plenty of spaces for the following two events.

Sedbergh, Yorkshire Dales - 7th March 10
Ruthin, North Wales - 5th April 10

Hop, skip and jump to the last event - Ruthin North Wales. A week doesn't go by when someone highlights that this date is a Monday. Very true, it's Easter Monday. We also have sorted out camping at the school on the Sunday night for a meagre price (can be booked when you enter online). Anyone who did the Open12 last year will know there's plenty to play at in this corner of the world so make a weekend of it.

NB Remember to be in with a chance of winning a Suunto watch you have to be at the prize giving.

Windermere Canoe and Kayak

Our good friends at WCK are still busy even through the cold snap - if you make the pilgrimage to the Lakes its worth giving them a look and scrounging a brew. They are on track to put together another series of two star BCU courses this spring. Pretty much the requirement for paddling in our events (except Sit on tops on Open24).

Dates 13/14th March, 27/28th March, 24/25th April and 22/23rd May - more details on these and 3 star course here

They also have some bargains in store - with Salewa G2 Multisport helmets on offer for half price (£34.95) more here

Help we need another somebody

Our little plea for help in the last newsletter worked wonders and we had some great offers of help. Its made us think this is a great way to recruit.

This is a bit tricker - anyone who has helped out on our events will know we invest alot of time (and money) in getting radio communications right - with believe it makes the events safer. We have some challenging events this summer which need some thought on how this will work.

So if you are interested we are after someone who preferbly knows a little about radio communications, can weild a soldering iron, is not afraid of computers and loves the outdoors. Wing us an email if thats you.

UKAR Awards

We're not bashful....... well we are. But a smile did come across our face when we were awarded Best Event in 2009 for the Coast to Coast. We had a great time and just can't wait to do this again. Thanks for all who voted for us - but you will have to be patient the C2C will be back in 2011.

And yes yours truly also won the MERRELL people's choice award and UK team award for being part of the Helly Hansen Team who won the world championships.

See you at an event soon.

James Thurlow

PS If you missed the world champs in Portugal on Channel4 the other weekend you can still get it on 4oD.
PPS Anquet still has 50% off landranger maps ends Sunday (click here).
