OK been busy here at Open Adventure towers as we get our heads around the forthcoming Mountain Hardwear Open5 series and put together next years Endurance Series. Exciting news as we take on an expedition race in 2010 on our home turf of Cumbria.

Mountain Hardwear Open5 Series

Yep its only 10 days to the first Mountain Hardwear Open5 of the 09/10 series. With Anthony Cooper at the helm the location is the Lake District and registration in Bowness. You can but expect a special day out in this most spectacular location.

With over £5000 of prizes from Mountain Hardwear over the series winners can expect to walk away with some cracking kit to help them on their way in the outdoors. As with last year the highest scoring male and female competitor in the serieswill also bag a £500 voucher for kit.

All of the Planners

What makes this series so very different to any previous Open5 series is that they are all being put together by racers like you - so expect the unexpected. We are grateful to Anthony, David, Emma, Ian, John and Tim who are putting time in to create some great events together finding those corners of the country you just would not guess existed plus views to match.

You can find out more about the Mountain Hardwear Open5 series here.

Transition

Transition Super Power JacketStuart from Accelerate, says this is one of AR's best kept secrets - I'm not sure Mountain Hardwear are best pleased its a secret and would rather you all knew about the wonders of the Transition range of clothing. Its great kit to wear when the weather is marginal as it is occasionally in the lakes.

The Accelerate shop will be at the Lake District Open5 and you will find the 'transition super power jacket' (wow bound to run faster with that on!) available at £95 and the featherweight zip T at £60 instead of £100 if you want one of these babies best wing Stuart an email (here) to be sure he brings it along to Bowness.

Suunto T3Suunto

Also on board for the 09/10 series is Suunto - if you are in any doubt about what watch you should wear in the outdoors take a look at these guys.

We will be raffling off a Suunto T3 (see right) at the prize giving to all those who made the start line. If you want to walk away with one of these you have to be at the prize giving (can't be given to mate / spouse or impostor). Find out more on this watch here.

Windermere Canoe and Kayak

Windermere Canoe and KayakFor the astute of you, you will notice Windermere Canoe and Kayak is just 5mins walk from registration at the Open5 - so if you are up for the weekend pop in and see them. They have an Alladins cave of kit not just for those who want to get wet, they also stock those essentials for racing.

They are also kicking off another round of training for the BCU 2 star and 3 star awards. So if you fancy taking on the Open24 or our new expedition event in 2010 its worth packing your bags and finding yourself at the boathouse one weekend. More details on their spangly new website (designed by our very own web geek James Kirby) right here.

Endurance Series

Endurance SeriesWe have recently had a flurry of emails asking about the 2010 endurance series and what dates the events are occurring. We will keep it brief but suffice to say we have recruited some real experience in this series with both planners Dave Johnson (Open12) and Andy Wilson (Open24) having competed in all of our previous Open24's! So they know a thing or two about what you guys like to see.

Open5+ Coniston, Lake District date tbc but likely Saturday 22nd May
Open12 Yorkshire Dales 26/27th June
Open24 North Wales 24/25th July

Entries will open on New Years Day with discounts for those that enter before 1st February.
The website has yet to be updated from this years events, but will change before you see another newsletter.

Expedition Event 2010.

Rumours are rife so we will put this to bed.. Yep we will be running an expedition event in 2010 sponsored by Adidas. It will be around 3-4 days in length, non stop for mixed teams of 4, location - Cumbria. A new website will be put together for this event which will be online in November (keep an eye on SleepMonsters) entries opening on the 1st December.

We are rapidly pulling this event together with experienced international racer and 2nd place C2C solo competitor Bruce Duncan - he has some crazy ideas which along with ours will make this a very memorable experience.

registration / prologue | 26th August
event | 27 - 30th August

Our aim is to make this event achievable to a wide range of competitors, not just the very best in the world. More to follow..
