Rain Glourious Rain

OK come on guys you wash in the stuff every day. It's what keeps our rivers bubbling, lakes filled and puddles ready to jump in. If you are a fair weather Adventure Racer best sign off for a few months because we know that these are some of the most exciting times in the outdoors.

Open5 Series

Well on that note the last Open5 was a tad damp but it produced some of the biggest smiles of the year. One or two folk suggested that their 2 star kayak certificate had come in use bear in mind it's a MTB / Running only event! Yep the first event of the 09/10 series kicked off in style from Hawkshead.

The results and race analysis are all online, as well as the beginnings of the series table (best 3 events). Race report on Sleepmonsters and a first for the Open5 series - FREE photos.

It's not that long to the next Open5 in the Peak District. Star racer Mr Hughes has been out on the hill checking out all the locations and seems pretty content this will match the pace of our other events. So unless you have an invite to tea with the Queen best you make your way to Hope College in the Peak District on 6th December.

Online entries will close on 3rd December, but entries on the day will still be available for an additional £7 though we would rather you pre-enter.

You can find out more about the Mountain Hardwear Open5 series here.

Endurance SeriesEndurance Series

Well it's been a busy month with a trip down to North Wales to check out plans for the Open24 2010.

Both Andy Wilson and I left pleased as punch - there will be special stages that have never before been attempted on an Open24, and I can assure you whole heartedly you will not be short changed. 24 hours of REAL Adventure..

The Open12 has also been scurrying ahead with Dave Johnson out exploring the wilds of the Dales and finding corners few knew existed. We are in the throes of tweaking the format of this event, ensuring that darkness figures in your adventure and you can still get some sleep. More details on the next newsletter.

Finally the Open5+ went down a storm last year and we are keen to pull this one back to the fore.. expect 5 hours like you have never seen before in an Open5 and if you get out dry you will be doing well. More coming soon.

Open5+ Lake District 15th May
Open12 Yorkshire Dales 26/27th June
Open24 North Wales 24/25th July

If you are wondering how / where can I enter - entries for these three events will open on New Year's Day and prices / details will go up sometime in December.

Adidasadidas Terrex Adventure Race

Will keep this short as you will get another email in the coming week announcing when the website has gone live.. but just so you know we have a ALL NEW 4 day adventure race for mixed teams of four planned for August 28-31st 2010.

Not only will this challenge the very best amongst you, we are also making it accessible for all racers with cut offs that don't miss the fun bits and places to camp for a few hours if needed.

It's coming and it will be here very soon..

Adventure Racing World Champions

If you have not already heard then your really should know that UK now has the Adventure Racing World Champions within its shores. Yep four of the very best headed out to Portugal earlier this month to take on the world. And take it on they did with style, winning with a margin over the best adventure racers in the world.

ARWC 2009
Warren Bates, Tom Gibbs, Nicola Mcleod, and Nick Gracie

Warren one of the team members has written an amusing account of the weekend on sleepmonsters here.

I was fortunate enough to be invited to be part of their support team with Nicola Wiseman (C2C competitor). We had a great time and you can read my account here.

The race is to be screened on Channel4 at 8.00am on 27th December, in the wake of you pudding slumber I'd recommend getting up for this or pushing the right buttons on the whatever you record TV on.

And Finally

If you want a real time waster Anquet have a little quiz running on their website for 200 of mapping... Check it out here.

Look forward to seeing you at the next Open5...

No worries
