C2C - Rules & Kit list
If you have questions about the best kit - post a question on the Sleepmonsters website, if its specific to this event and the answer is not on the FAQ page please feel free to contact us.
We only have a few rules which are in place primarily for your safety and secondly to create a fair event. We would appreciate if you would abide by these and the spirit in which they are written. Deliberate infringement will not result in any penalty of time just disqualification.
These rules are in addition to those specified on the kayaking page here
- Don’t take (ride or carry) your bike on a footpath
- Only use public rights of way or permissive tracks as indicated in the route book.. E.g. Forestry roads
- Close gates even if someone is behind you or they were open when you arrived
- For pairs in a team you must stay together (you should be able to talk to each other) except in an emergency
- Drafting, wash hanging or boat carrying can only be done with in a team and not between teams or solos. Exchanging jelly babies is fine.
- Solos that consistently travel together during the event will be moved to the non-competitive pairs category.
- If you retire, you must report to the finish or the nearest transition point
- GPS units are not allowed to be used on the event (the use of altimeters is allowed)
- Competitors are not allowed to accept or use external assistance except within the bounds of a transition area.
- No food or kit drops are allowed
- This event is a one bike / one boat type of event so you can not swap to a mountain bike then to a road bike for different sections.
- Competitor bibs must be worn over the top of any clothing or buoyancy aids at all times
- No swim aids can be used on the swim (e.g. flippers, webbed gloves and floats).
The following kit needs to be carried by each solo / pair unless specified
Mandatory - All sections
- Top - good conditions can be windproof, poor conditions has to be waterproof with taped seams (per competitor). The race director will err on the side of caution.
- Waterproof bottoms could be added at the discretion of the race director (per competitor)
- First Aid Kit
- (Minimum of crepe bandage, wound dressing, 2 safety pins and 6 adhesive dressings)
- Foil blanket or Survival Bag
- Compass
- Map
- Whistle – this should be readily available we recommend you attach one to rucksac and another to your buoyancy aid.
- Emergency food
- Head Torch - any competitor leaving a transition after 3pm needs to carry a head torch
- You will also be required to carry the event tracker as supplied by Open Adventure

- Cycle Helmet
- Front and rear cycle lights - when leaving a transition after 3pm
- Puncture Repair Kit
- Spare inner tube
- Bike Tool
- Pump
